Background checks are an important component of compliance. The appropriate level of background check must be completed prior to working with minors. The Office of Human Resources will facilitate background checks upon department’s request. Prior to initiating requests consult with Youth Compliance regarding the correct type of screening for your youth activities. The most common background screenings for youth activities are:

  • Level 2 DCF Summer Youth Camp screening: required by law for all summer camp personnel with the exception for volunteers serving less than 10 hours of service per month while always within sight of a person who meets the screening requirement. Summer camps must adhere to the background screening standards set forth in s. 409.175 and s. 435.
  • Level 2 DCF Afterschool Program screening: required for faculty, staff, students, student employees, graduate assistants, and volunteers who are responsible for the Care, Custody, or Control of minors at university youth activities outside of summer programming.
